I wrote in an email recently that Kevin was almost pick-pocketed. Some people have wanted the details. This happened last Wednesday when we went to Narantuul Market, also known as the Black Market. The market is definitely a place where you want to keep your eyes out for pick pocketers and other shady happenings. This is an open air market that amazingly runs YEAR AROUND...even when it's 30 degrees below zero F. How do these people stand the cold?!
Part of the market is also inside, but this day we were shopping for some clothing from the outdoor vendors (and, it was a beautiful day!). Susan and I found some treasures we needed to get, so we were happy with our shopping trip. We had arrived at the market in a group of five of us, but Kevin and I left separately. As we walked through some of the back roads to the bus stop, a somewhat drunk man reached slowly in front of Kevin, diving right toward his front jeans pocket. Kevin grabbed his hand and lifted it away from his body, and the man violently pulled on Kevin and then bumped into me. That was the end of the event, and I wasn't even too shook up, just amazed that someone would be so obvious!
This is just another part of Mongolian culture which is something for us to be aware of and to get used to (and to prevent!). He is our refuge in all situations!

When you said he bumped into you, I was worried that he used the "obvious" reach toward Kevin to mask a sneakier theft from you; so glad you weren't a victim!
