It's a Beautiful Day for a...Parade!

We had our windows wide open this morning because the weather is absolutely gorgeous! In the distance, we could hear trumpets and drums...sounded like...parade music! We looked down the street, and saw a parade. I ran outside with my camera to get this awesome picture. Don't you just love the exhortation to "Try Mongolia." I wanted to yell, "We are!" It was so fun standing there with Mongolians waving and smiling at us. We've never seen so many smiles here! Usually, on the streets, it is not within their cultural norms to smile and acknowledge strangers. But, evidently, it's okay to smile and wave if you're part of a parade. We stood on the edge of the street, smiling and waving back, and yelling, "Sain Bain Ooo!", a Mongolian greeting. A Mongolian woman in the parade came over to us and explained what the parade was all about. She told us that this is the first anniversary celebrating the fact that Mongolia adopted a UN sanction giving rights to disabled people. There were many people in the parade in wheelchairs. We thanked her for coming over to tell us about the parade (in English!).

A few minutes later, we met two like-minded young men from Holland who are touring the area. They were interested in what we were doing here, and they know our Father! What a fun little "blip" in our day!

Yes, that is a fun "blip" to your day! I'm glad you heard it going on and were able to take part. The first year we were living in our current neighborhood was our first year of home schooling, and one fall day we heard drums. We walked toward the elementary school and found that the high school was about to start their homecoming parade. We were happy to stumble upon that!

Super fun. Must have been a great encouragement!
