Flower Show in Chiang Mai, Thailand

We walked through a flower show a few days ago, which was much like going to the state fair…large quantities of flowers and plants displayed of all types:

Flowers we're familiar with from the U.S.

Many kinds of cacti

Bonsai Trees of all sorts

Tropical flowers

Then, the food…oh, the food! There were

fried insects
duck eggs, and then, items we were more likely to eat. We enjoyed a strawberry slushy drink, fried potato discs on a long “toothpick” style stick, crispy fried shrimp,

Little quiches in leaf-boats, cooking on a grill

Bon Appetit with the leaf-boat quiche!

a small quiche in a cute little “leaf boat”, a bag of roasted peanuts, and possibly the best caramel popcorn we’ve ever had (not too salty, not too sweet!). We also tried a roasted chestnut and some kind of nut we’d never had before, but neither were good enough to buy the whole bag.

A state-fair-like crowd

We were looking for a table to settle at to eat our fried shrimp, and saw a table with just a Thai mom and daughter sitting and asked if we could sit with them. They happily agreed, and they spoke English. We found out the daughter is 16 years old, and she was excited to get the same shrimp we had. We shared our caramel popcorn with them and she brought us a bottled water from one of the vendors. We were blessed by our enjoyable, friendly conversation in a festive atmosphere with beautiful weather. I was wishing we could strike up a longer friendship with them, but, alas, we are here for a short time. May our Father draw them to Himself.
