Fourth of July

We enjoyed our 4th of July holiday last week. There was a celebration put on by the American Embassy and some other organizations. About 600-700 people attended, with about 2/3 of them being Americans and the rest being Mongolian friends. We met our American ambassador who works here in Mongolia.

A U.S. Marine Corp Band also attended and supplied awesome music.

Highlights of the day for me: beautiful weather in the 70's with a slight breeze, time with friends, and great grilled brats (I ate two and felt way too full!) with awesome potato salad. The only thing missing was fireworks. The event was from 12-4 p.m. on July 3.

Then, July 4, we enjoyed a normal Sunday with a little addition: I found watermelon at the fruit stand I go to several times a week. Coming soon: a photo of my friend, Carentuul, the owner of the fruit stand! She speaks a bit of English, I speak a bit of Mongolian, and I end up buying bananas, nectarines, and on July 4---half a watermelon!

Ooo-la-la! The American Embassy sounds so VIP-ish! How wonderful to celebrate our nation's birth with others from "home" as well as friends you've made in Mongolia.
