Ice Cream with the Electrician and Landlord!

So, what will you do with your Thursday evening? We had a fun one. Our landlord came over with an electrician who needed to do some work on a couple electrical outlets in our apartment. It was a fun evening. Kevin and I were working on our Mongolian flashcards. This warmed our landlord up to talking with us. He knows some English, but not a lot (more English than we presently know of Mongolian!). We would look at him and say a word and act it out (i.e., "to sleep") and he would speak it correctly for us. I'm having trouble pronouncing at least three of their ofen-used sounds. It was very fun to have interaction with him. We showed each other pictures of our families (ours on our frig and his in his wallet). He and the electrician were here about 1 1/2 hours. Then, when they were done, we asked them to join us for some ice cream (yes! There's ice cream here...and very rich, at that!) They stayed for the dessert; our landlord could speak some English, but our electrician only said "thank you" in English...but oh, a smile can speak a thousand words!

I'm so glad we've had this opportunity to connect with our landlord. What an unexpected, pleasurable evening. This morning I had said to the Father, "Open our eyes to opportunities." This was a great opportunity.

The ice cream we get here is in a plastic bag.

Spending Thursday night in your home having ice cream with your Mongolian landlord and an electrician!! Something we have never done, so yes indeed, a very exciting night.....SO GOOD that you have ice cream!!! And in a plastic bag so you can squeeze it into your tiny freezer!
.... suggestion from dad (the ice cream lover)... just in case the ice cream doesn't fit in the freezer, maybe put it outside on your window sill!!!! :)
Lots of Love, Mom

Press on as your make many more new friendships in the Mongolian Frontier!

How cool! I love the way Micah described their pleasure on his Facebook log. It's great to read both of your perspectives on the same event, and I will never tire of hearing about the contacts you make and the excursions you take!

Yea!!! Every day you get to talk to someone new! My kiss today was having SO MANY kids at Longfellow give me hugs, and say "hi Ms. Block" in the hallway! Our Father IS pretty awesome.
